Boston: Educational Publishing Co, 1899. New Edition. Hardcover. Account for children of Eskimo life (food, housing, dogs, sports, candy) with a dramatic front cover illustration in gilt, silver & black depicting an Eskimo with fishing spear in an Arctic landscape.
The author, a graduate of West Point, led an expedition to the Canadian Arctic to look for written records thought to have been left near King William Island by members of Franklin's lost expedition. The group interviewed Inuit, visited sites of Franklin Expedition remains, and found a skeleton of one of the Franklin crewmen. The expedition boasted the longest sledge journey and the first journey in which the members relied entirely on an Inuit diet.
