Vienna: Kunstverlag von A. Schroll, 1909. Hardcover. Rare folio containing 30 printed photographic plates of elegant Art Nouveau examples of wrought iron work in Vienna and Prague at the turn of the 20th century.

The large b&w plates include a wide variety of examples of fine metal working, from picture frames, sconces & plaques, elegant door lock plates, interior and exterior lighting sconces, hotel and cafe signage and entry doors, Metro station balustrades and signage, wrought iron entry gates to parks and cemeteries, balcony railings, and wrought iron double entry doors to private residences.

The work is published by Anton Schroll, the renowned Viennese publisher to the Wiener Werkstatte. The "Vienna workshops" were one of the most creative and influential design workshops of the early 20th century; their work evolved out of the Vienna Secession movement. The workshops were founded in 1903 by Josef Hoffman and Koloman Moser.

Architects and designers works listed in this folio are mainly in Koniggratz and Prague, and include: Alois Dryak and Bedrich Bendlmayer (they notably designed the one of the most beautiful Art Nouveau hotels in Prague, the Hotel Central), Georg Justich, Jan Kotera, Richard Novak, J. M. Maly, Emil Gerstl, M. Blecha, Karel Novak, M. Oehm, Rudolf Nemec, Kamillo Hilbert, J. Lankas, and Joza Gocar.

Four additional color plates from a different publication ('Moderne Bau Formen' a monthly magazine published from 1902 to 1944 by Julius Hoffmann) loosely inserted. These color plates include an Eliel Saarinen interior; F. W. Jochem, Darmstadt (elevation and floor plan); Hermann Billing watercolor of an arched entry way; and a C. R. Ashbee interior.

Deaccessed by the library of the Gibson Berndt Company, with their stamp, and a further stamp superimposed, Robert F. Tegen, Architect, Portland Oregon on the front and back of each plate; Tegen's stamp only inside the folio boards.
