A wonderfully illustrated work on tulips, with 54 full page color lithographic plates, by the British botanist William Dykes, and illustrated by his wife, Katherine, a noted botanical painter and iris hybridizer. The Dykes' own garden was planted with over 30,000 tulips. The work includes detailed descriptions of each species and notes on cultivation.
Folio, 108 pp, 54 fine color plates, bibliography, index. In the publisher's original green gilt cloth, with gilt title at spine; corners and spine ends slightly rubbed. In the original printed dust jacket, dusty and chipped, but intact. Internally, signature "A. P. Boissier", at the front paste down, possibly a relation of the noted tulip expert and Swiss botanist, Pierre Edmond Boissier. The plates very bright and clean. OCLC: 2640786. Very good. Item #24204
