Peppin Family, typed autographed letter.

Sydney: 14 October 1941. A letter from the Mitchell Librarian, Ida Leeson, signed and dated October 1941, addressed to Col. R. C. Wynne, Government House, Sydney. The letter is a synopsis of the Peppin family's Australian sheep farming experiences, from an extract from 'The Australasian'. Leeson adds a short bibliography of works on the Peppin breeding methods, and speculates about what became of the records of the Boonoke station. F. B. S. Falkiner is cited as an expert on the Peppin strain.

Ida Leeson (1885 - 1964) was the Mitchell Librarian at the State Library of New South Wales from 1932 to 1944. She was the first woman to reach a senior management position in an Australian library. During her tenure the Library's position as the leading archive for Australian and Pacific documents was strengthened, numerous collections were acquired and important exhibitions mounted.

Folio, 8 1/4 x 13 1/4". Typed, on Mitchell Library letter head. Two period folds, fastened with a straight pin. Few small marks at upper left of front page, otherwise very good condition. Very good condition. Item #24353
