London: Thomas Tegg, 1811. Original copper engraved caricature of personified cleaning implements and kitchen items. suggesting a carpenter (joiner) & gardener. The carpenter is assembled from implements including mallet, saw, ax and compasses; the gardener is made out of a watering can, rake, hoe, spade and shears, with a flower bouquet in place of her face.
A short poem surrounds the title, "With bowels lank and head of mallet, the joiner longs to taste a sallad (sic") for the carpenter. And for the Gardener: "Old Nosegay quite alert and busy, has one to sell and asks a tizzey".
Original hand color, 12 1/2" x 9", plus ample margins. Paper toned, small closed tear top edge repaired on verso. Good + condition. Item #24441
