Engraved map, printed in color, depicting North America from the Arctic Circle through Central America, showing Alaska as "Russian America", ten years before the purchase of Alaska in 1867. Alaska's purchase by the United States put an end to Russian efforts to expand settlements along the North American coast, and was an important turning point for American influence in the region.
Canada is "British America" , Indian Territory is marked north of Texas, and Kansas is spelled with a "z".
