V-MAIL Easy To Write ... Fast ... Great to Get ... Often. W.W.II Poster.

[New York]: Recruiting Publicity Bureau, 1944. Striking color printed W.W.II art poster, for V-Mail or Victory Mail, a process used by the US as the best and most secure method to write to soldiers overseas. The poster title printed in white against a dark blue sky, with four military airplanes in flight above, and addressed V-Mail envelope below.

V Mail was written on small letter sheets which were censored, then photographed and shipped as thumbnail size images in microfilm. Once at the destination the negatives were printed, with the final print at 60% of the size of the original. This saved thousands of tons of shipping space: 37 mail bags of regular mail could be replaced by one single sack! It was also more secure because it prevented the use of invisible ink and micro printing.

18 x 24". Signed "Bogorad" at lower left. Original folds flattened. Very good condition. Item #24500
