A large, striking b&w lithograph of 2 military officers in uniform, holding large national flags or pennants. The officer at the right holds a large flag of Ireland on a flagpole resting on his shoulder, the green harp flag, variants of which have been used for the basis of flags of Ireland up to the present. The military officer at the left holds a flag with repeating fleur de lys pattern (French?).

Printed signature of Byam Shaw in the print at the lower left. Shaw (1872 - 1919) was a British painter, illustrator and designer, who enlisted in the Artists Rifles at the beginning of WWI. He created many newspaper war cartoons, and did illustrations for memorial commissions.

13 1/2 x 18 1/2", paper 19 x 25 1/2". Small chips at right corners. A large and impressive image. Very good condition. Item #24535
