The volume is "Profusely Enriched with Rare and Beautiful Photographs, illustrating every phase of life and scenery in those marvelous islands; with explanations of each prepared by Miss Nellie M. Stevens".

A work by John L. Stevens, US Minister to the Kingdom of Hawaii who in 1893 was accused of conspiring to overthrow Queen Liliuokalani. Stevens called in the US Marines, the Republic of Hawaii was established, and in 1898 the islands were annexed to the US. The book includes a section titled, "History of the Hawaiian Revolution of January, 1893" (pp95 -110); it concludes with Stevens' statement, "This rich prize is now freely offered to the United States" (p110).

Oblong 4to, 126pp, 48 b&w printed photographic plates. Pictorial blue cloth. Edge worn, front board dusty & gilt title faded, spine ends worn. Internally, small crack top corner frontispiece repaired with archival tape; front end paper removed, bright and clean. OCLC: 3797315. Good + condition. Item #24565
