San Francisco: 1885. Engraved advertising card printed in a variety of fonts, for the "Great Australian Success, "See Saw", to accompany a show of the grand fairy opera "Cinderella", at the Tivoli Opera House, September 12, 1885. "See Saw" was a waltz with children's voices, performed at Covent Garden in 1885, and then on to San Francisco.

The Tivoli had only just opened in 1884, at the corner of Mason and Eddy. By late 1885 it had been renamed The Panorama.

The card with black racist lithographed caricature of a member of the cast of Cinderella printed on verso, with the line, "Let us look this matter calmly in de face!". Showing a black man in tux and tails leaning on a small table. The date of the last matinee is printed below the illustration. 4 1/4 x 2 1/2". Faint toning top edge of card. Trove 7409278 (for "See Saw"). Very good condition. Item #24690
