Zurich: 1856; 1857. Two articles extracted from the Supplement to a German geology volume, including a long essay by German geologist Georg Hartung on the geology of the Canary Islands (Lanzarote & Fuerteventura Islands). The Hartung essay with 10 folding plates, very bright and clean.
Hartung (1821 - 1891) had a strong influence on Sir Charles Lyell, founder of modern geology; he was living on Madeira when Lyell was there performing research which was later published in his 'Principles of Geology'. The two geologists undertook much exploration of the volcanic Canary Islands together.
