Published by Paraclete Potter (1780 - 1858) a bookseller and journalist who edited the Poughkeepsie Journal for almost thirty years. According to an article in the 1873 'Historical Magazine', Potter also opened a bookstore, which included a reading room frequented by prominent New Yorkers.
