The article pertains to the pressing "Chinese question" in the US, particularly in California, with the "workingman's dread of fatal competition" and the hatred of the Chinese taught by "communist agitator Denis Kearney and the "hoodlums of San Francisco", and the attempts by Congress to "restrict Asiatic immigration" (p482).

Wonderful wood engravings depicting Chinese bankers, barbers, traditional doctors, a recent tornado in China, "Parents Selling their Children", "Starving People Committing Suicide", "Cannibalism", "Smoking Opium", Corn Doctor, and Chinese Junks (full page).

Printed on the front wrapper is, Volume II, No. 6. Tall 4to, a complete issue, pp 481 - 576. Contents printed inside front wrapper; advertisement inside rear wrapper. Original tan printed wrappers, dusty, chipped at spine with lower portion missing; text bright and clean.
