Item #25516 Real photo postcard of four generations of the Talbot & Webster families of Colac Victoria. Australia Victoria, Photograph.

Real photo postcard of four generations of the Talbot & Webster families of Colac Victoria.

Victoria, Australia: 1915. Ephemera. Addressed to Mrs. J. Sheridan of 743 Rogers Ave, Brooklyn, and annotated " Colac, Victoria, Australia. For cousin Adeline. Four Generations Taken Aug 14, 1915. your Uncle Samuel, aged 84 years. your Cousin Harriet aged 48, Her son Stanley aged 22 and his son James aged one year & six months."

Mrs J. Sheridan is Adeline Talbot (1869, New York - 14 Jan 1944, Brooklyn, NY; m. 24 Nov 1908 to John J. Sheridan, a lawyer for a title company). The postcard was sent from an Australian cousin to her American cousin.

The eldest in the photograph "Uncle Samuel" is Samuel Talbot (1831 Somerset, England; emigrated to Australia in the 1850s; m. Betsy Black 1859; d. 19 May 1925, Colac, Victoria at "The Pines". ) He was a twin son of Robert & Charlotte Dowden of Street, Somerset. His twin was Harriet. (source 1841 England census.) We presume that a brother of Samuel emigrated to New York.

"Your Cousin Harriet" is Harriet Talbot (1868 Colac, Victoria - 1943, Newmarket, Victoria; m. Walter James Webster 1891). She seems to have been named after his twin sister.

"Her son Stanley" is Walter "Stanley" Webster (7 Oct 1893, Colac Victoria - 19 Apr 1928, Ararat, Victoria, m. Anna Mary Peterson 1914.)

"His son James" is Alfred James Webster (1914 Victoria - 1984 Romsey, Victoria)

The postcard was sent by a Talbot relative from Australia to New York. Splitback postcard, not franked, no stamp. Slight brown spot on verso but in very good condition. Item #25516
