Silk figure decorated menu cover, Gaddi's Restaurant in the Peninsula Hotel, Kowloon, Hong Kong.
1950s. A lovely large silk embroidered and padded figure of a Chinese woman dressed in colorful traditional garments, carrying a large gilt lantern, graces this menu cover for Gaddi's restaurant. Gaddi's is a noted French haute cuisine restaurant, founded in 1953, and luxuriously appointed with Parisian silver and crystal chandeliers, Chinese carpets & a 17th century coromandel screen.
The lovely silk padded figure of the Chinese woman measures 12 1/2 x 5 1/2; the menu cover 15 3/4 x 12", opens to 24". With the original silk cord tie used to secure the menu; short split at bottom hinge of the menu cover. The name of the hotel and restaurant printed in red. Color logo for the Hong Kong & Shanghai Hotels Ltd printed on the rear cover. Very good overall. Item #25577
