Ancient Greek & Roman art album, with annotations throughout.

A handmade album (student's?) of classical art, consisting of 35 reproductions including 12 photogravures, of important ancient Greek and Roman works, each accompanied by a full page of manuscript notes by Susan Drake. The 12 full page photogravures (9 x 12") are by A. W. Elson Co of Boston, copyright 1897.
The works of art in the album include: the Venus of Capua, the Olympian games, statues of Chares, Hera of Samos, Selinius, female figures from the Acropolis, Apollo, Aristion, Ephebus, works from the Temple of Zeus, Olympia; works of Myron, Phidias, Polyclitus, Praxiteles; the Niobe group; Boy & Goose; the Dying Gaul; the Laocoon; the Farnese bull; Apollo Belvedere; Artemis of Versailles; Victory of Samothrace; Venus de Medici; Farnese Hercules; portrait busts; and Greek painting.
Signed on the front end paper, Susan E. Goelet Drake. The Society column of the Boston Sunday Post, November 30, 1913, records the marriage of Susan to Mr. Richard Sears of Mt. Vernon Street, Boston.
Plain paper covers, 12 x 9 1/2", bound with 2 brads. Unpaginated, 35 b&w illustrations laid down, 4 pp notes taken on site loosely inserted. Covers slightly dusty; one plate loosely inserted; manuscript notes and plates bright and clean. Very good overall. Item #25710
