A handmade album of Egyptian art, consisting of reproductions of important works & monuments, including cyanotype photographs and 10 photogravures, each accompanied by a full page of manuscript notes by Susan Drake. The full page photogravures (9 x 12") are by A. W. Elson Co of Boston, copyright 1897.
The album includes: Island of Philae; hieroglyphs; the Rosetta Stone; The Great Pyramids (Giza); the Great Sphinx; The Granite Temple at Gizeh; Temple of Edfu; Avenue of Sphinxes & Grand Colonnade Karnak; Thebes; Luxor; tomb wall decorations; Cleopatra's Needle Obelisk; and Abu Simbel.
Signed on the front end paper, Susan E. Goelet Drake. It is possibly her work as a student of higher education. The Society column of the Boston Sunday Post, November 30, 1913, records the marriage of Susan to Mr. Richard Sears of Mt. Vernon Street, Boston.
Plain paper covers, titled "Art Note Book", 12 x 9 1/2", bound with 2 brads. Unpaginated, cyanotype photographs tipped in or laid down, photogravures and b&w illustrations throughout. 3 pp paper on Egyptian art by Susan Drake, dated Nov 21, 1903, with comment "very good" loosely inserted. Covers slightly dusty; plates and text bright and clean. Very good overall. Item #25714
