Shanghai: Ca. 1945. Compelling original watercolor painting on paper, signed and dated at the lower left, by noted American artist, Fred Fredden-Goldberg (1889 – 1973). Little is known about the artist, except that he fled Nazi persecution in Europe around 1938, surviving in the Shanghai Jewish ghetto during the war before emigrating to the US and settling in San Francisco around 1946. In Shanghai he painted these scenes of everyday life.
