Coventry, England: Stevengraph Works, Ca. 1870. An astonishingly detailed and intricately embroidered silk rugby piece, depicting a player, ball tucked under his arm, streaking to the goal at the left, leaving the opposing team literally in the dust. Woven in silk and mounted on a period mount with title stamped in gilt below the silk piece. Printed advertisement for Thomas Stevens on verso; part of the original printing on verso has been obscured by some brown paper. In a black and gilt wood frame. The stevengraph 6 x 2"; the frame 9 x 6". OCLC: 948346169 records only one copy, at Harvard. Very good condition. Item #25727
