Brisbane: Government House, February 23, 1940. Autograph folding calling card signed "Leslie Wilson, Governor of Queensland", with envelope addressed to the Rev. Father D. Manning, Anahala, Macroom, Cork, Eire.
Sir Leslie was Queensland's longest serving governor (1932 - 1946). He served in Gallipoli and in France, was elected to the House of Commons, then served as Governor of Bombay before being appointed Queensland governor. A Father Denis Stephen Manning (1899 - 1992) is recorded by the Societe des Missions Africaines, as having served as a Catholic missionary to Liberia in the 1920s and 1930s; he was also a lifelong supporter of Eamon de Valera.
The calling card, 4 3/4 x 7 3/4"; the envelope 5 1/4 x 4 1/4". The envelope franked with Brisbane Queensland, Ship Room, and Australia King George VI 2d stamp. Very good condition. Item #25880
