"The Death of Captain Cook", in Tales of Travellers; Or, a View of the World.

London: W. M. Clark, February 4, 1837. Account of the death of the famed explorer, with an unusual engraved illustration entitled, "Captain Cook Attacked By The Savages" in a relatively short-lived weekly publication.

The copper engraving depicts Captain Cook on the shore in Owhyhee, musket in one hand, and with the other gesturing to his men who fire from a small boat upon the Hawaiians on the shore. Behind Cook stands a Hawaiian with dagger poised to strike Cook in the back, as another man bends to pick up a large rock.

Five copies of "Tales of Travellers; Or, a View of the World" varying length listed on OCLC with Yale having the longest run (1836-1839.) OCLC: 613489600 & OCLC: 6188739. 8vo, text printed in 2 columns, single disbound issue, Number 18, of this periodical, pp 137- 144. Very good condition. Item #25895
