Much material on the major figures in naval history in the colonial and federal periods, conflicts with the Barbary pirates, and the War of 1812 (which includes Cooper's controversial interpretation of the Battle of Lake Erie). Signed by the American who purchased this volume in Paris in 1852, Geo. Gordon.
