Melbourne: Pater, 1908. A handsome color postcard produced to celebrate the Great White Fleet's visit to Melbourne in 1908. With an image of Melbourne Town Hall, decorated with the flags & crests of Australia and the US, with decorative surrounds and wattle design. On the verso, the initials WTP inside a floral diamond, the trademark of WT Pater, printers and stationers. [with] 6 other cards issued at the same time.

W. T. Pater & Co. was a Melbourne company that published postcards in the early 1900s. William Thompson Pater was born in Melbourne in 1861. Pater's business was established at 271 Little Collins Street as a general printer and stationer which offered Christmas cards, booklets, calendars, and leather goods as well as postcards and albums.

[with] 6 Melbourne color postcards, which include: the Grand Hotel; Exhibition Building; the Law Courts; Parliament House; St. Patrick's Cathedral; and Alexandria Avenue.

Postally unused, divided backs. In vg unused condition with slight rounding of a few corners. 5 1/2 x 3 1/2" Very good overall. Item #26147
