Fukien Christian University - Foochow dialect lesson two.
China: ca. 1920. A work sheet for learning the Foochow dialect, used by a missionary, with their penciled words in pinyin. Phrases on this lesson include "Sir, Teacher' Say, Speak; Peace unto you!; go away or out of; please stand up; I should like to ask you sir, or teacher; he wants (it); Please practice tones; He now went out for a rest; Someone (is) calling me; Are you going?, etc. On the verso, are two sections, one a group of Chinese characters under the heading "Translate into English", the next 11 sentences in English headed by "Translate into Chinese". The student has not finished this part.
Fukien Christian University was started in 1916, and still exists, incorporated with the Fujian Normal University. 7 1/2 x 13", printed on both sides. 3 old folds, slightly marked with a couple of small punctures.
