London: J. Johnson, No. 72, St. Pauls Church-Yard, 1784. Second edition with Additions and Corrections. An atmospheric copy in original paper wrappers, corners rounded - this literally appears to be a copy that lived in someone's pocket. First published in 1781, the 6th and final edition in 1807. John Elliot, M.D., was born at Chard, Somerset in 1747 and died in 1787 in Newgate prison by food strike while awaiting trial on a charge of attempted murder he was later (too late) acquitted of. He practised as an apothecary in Soho in Carnaby Market thence as his reputation grew, in Great Marlborough Street and later as a Physician in Newman Street. 12mo, 136pp. A previous owner has deliberately excised the bottom quarter of two pages, under the heading Decoction & Electuary. Wellcome, II, 519. Item #26331
