S. S. Geelong. Souvenir of Las Palmas 29 Sep 1906.

1906. A silk letter holder hand-painted with an image of the S. S. Geelong. The ship was built in 1904 for the British - Melbourne route. During W.W.I. it was leased to the Australian government and used to transport troops to Egypt. The first voyage was Oct. 1914 and it made two more voyages as a troop ship. It sank on Jan 1st, 1916 near Alexandria. There is a signature on the lower left, possible "Folin".

8" square with a pocket opening lined with blue silk and trimmed with lace. Braid on three sides. Silk a little marked and toned, the image and decoration very good. Item #26358
