Item #26683 The Darjeeling Disaster, Proposed Lee Memorial Building. Ada Lee.
The Darjeeling Disaster, Proposed Lee Memorial Building.

The Darjeeling Disaster, Proposed Lee Memorial Building.

c. 1900. Paperback. A seemingly unrecorded small booklet describing the Lee story and requesting subscriptions to support the building of an orphanage, the Lee Memorial Building in India.
The request stems from the "Darjeeling Disaster", a landslide which killed 10, six of them the children of missionaries Rev. David Hiram and Ada Lee on September 24, 1899. The school exists today and is known as the Mount Hermon School.

Beneath the title on the cover, "With Compliments of the Committee of the Lee Memorial". Page three is headed "The Darjeeling Disaster. Proposed Lee Memorial Building". There are three photographs of the children, one photographed by Harrington & Co.

Oddly, this does not seem to be recorded on OCLC, nor does a Google search identify copies. 6 1/4 x 4 3/4", 10pp, printed on thick paper akin to vellum, slightly oily, tan paper printed wraps, 10pp. Cover dusty, chipped. Good -. Item #26683
