Full color illustrated cover of the deck of the Santa Maria with moveable ship's wheel, which exposes different parts of a map of Columbus' voyages as it turns. Inside back cover folds out to reveal a pop up diorama with three dimensional pop ups of Columbus' three vessels at anchor in a central American harbor. Strings are threaded through the Santa Maria to give the effect of the rigging. There is a small paper tape repair on the back of the hinge at the very front of the diorama where two small boats pop up. The verso of this fold out is lavishly illustrated with a portrait of Columbus, a portrait of King Ferdinand and Queen Isabella, a scene depicting Columbus' landing in the new world and the coat of arms of Columbus. Kubasta is the well known Czech children's book designer and illustrator, who trained as an architect, and worked with the state run Artia, in Prague.
