After hearing lectures in Poughkeepskie on animal magnetism (the precursor of hypnotism) he decided he was a clairvoyant. He described himself as "The Poughkeepsie Seer"... [Wikipedia]. This was his first book, publishing 30 in all.
This volume has many manuscript notes, comments, references written in pencil throughout, and on front and back end papers in pen. Newspaper articles glued to ffep. One owner's signature at front: Charles H. Todd, and there appears to be several different owners manuscript markings.
