West Point Invitation to Graduation Exercises for the Class of 1915.

West Point Invitation to Graduation Exercises for the Class of 1915.

New York: 1915. Ephemera. An invitation for a distinctive West Point graduation class, "The Class the Stars Fell On", so called because 59 of the 164 graduates became Generals, including two five star generals, General Dwight Eisenhower and General Omar Bradley.

This invitation was sent out by graduate Metcalfe Reed. Despite being a member of this illustrious class, Reed was cashiered out of the army in 1931.

From Michael Haskew's book, "West Point 1915 Eisenhower, Bradley and the Class The Stars Fell On"- "While stationed in Hawaii, Reed was court martialed and called back to Fort Thomas for arraignment and trial. Charges included forgery, fraud and falsifying statements. Sentenced to be dismissed from the Army and following review by appropriate authorities including President Herbert Hoover, Secretary of War Patrick Hurley and Army Chief of Staff Douglas MacArthur sentence was imposed. The order read, 'Major Metcalfe Reed ceases to be an officer of the Army 12 o'clock midnight April 6, 1931.'"
