West Point Hop. Farewell Hop June 13th 1877.

Philadelphia: Dreka, 1877. An early invitation to a West Point graduation hop, with engraving of Minerva and Mars standing on a wall flanking the invitation text, with a lyre, helmet, weapons and a shield inscribed with 'et minerva et marte'.

Banner text reads- "The pleasure of your Company is requested at the Farewell Hop to be given to the Graduating Class by the Class of '78. June 13th 1877.

It includes the "Managers" - J.R. Richards Jr., Edwin McNeill, Geo. McC. Derby, A.L. Smith, Edward B. Ives, J.F.R. Landis. Floor Managers - A.S. Bailey, Baldwin D. Spilman, Chas. M. Carrow. Most of this graduating class were sent to the Indian Wars in the US West and later to the Spanish American war.

The bank note printing and the elaborate typography contribute to making this item a piece of handsome design. 5 1/2 x 8 3/8", cream paper printed in black, slt fox spotting on bottom border, original fold. Very good condition. Item #27269
