London: Davidson, [185-?]" also "Musical treasury, No. 781" and "as sung by Mr. Sam. Cowell, at Canterbury Hall; by Mr. Toole, & c.", "Called: fifth edition, with extra verses." This copy stating "Fifteenth Edition, with Extra Verses", also Davidson, but different address format.
The text differences are extensive in the first column of page 3. Current events discussed in this edition include the Act for Divorce, the Great Eastern, China, Napoleon the Third, Robson robbing shares in the Sydenham Palace, and the great bell in the Victoria Tower. Both editions include the verse "The Czar Alexander..." mentioning him losing his pants to the foe in Crimea, so likely 1856.
The eight stanzas of "Bill Barlow's Emigration to Australia" appearing on p 4 have him inheriting L 1000 sterling, landing in "Sidney", losing his money, his cattle dying, his wethers got the scab, drought, etc.
Sml. folio, 13 1/2 x 9 1/2", 4pp, colored illustration on the front wrapper of a man in rags, in a hat with a pipe in hand, a rope as his belt. Separated at the fold with corner chips and sml. closed separations in margins. Item #27349
