The Public Works Administration was the architectural arm of the Works Progress Administration (a.k.a. Works Projects Administration, WPA). The WPA started under President Roosevelt during the Great Depression, and supplied jobs to the unemployed while building up the public infrastructure of the United States via parks, schools, roads, and buildings.
