New York: Leavitt & Allen, c. 1865. Hardcover. The owner of the book was Anna W. Remington of Rhode Island, and many of her classmates from the Lapham Institute in North Scituate, Rhode Island signed this book between 1868 and 1873. She was born in 1851 to Jefferson & Mary Remington, and died 19 Nov 1883, a month shy of her 32nd birthday.

The book contains prints, friend's compliments, greetings or verse.

[WITH] a Children's Magazine published by the Gen. Protestant Episcopal Sunday School Union, dated February 1853, 12mo, 43pp, cream paper wraps, string bound, marks on spine, with 'Henry Remington' written in childish handwriting on cover. Henry was Anna's older brother.

The Lapham Institute was a Freewill Baptist institution known as the Smithville Seminary in 1836 and was renamed Lapham from 1863 - 1876.

Oblong 8vo, full leather embossed covers, gilt title on blue leather, 4 engravings and title page, 1 portrait of Barnaby Rudge. Covers rubbed, fox spotting on etchings, otherwise very clean. Very good overall. Item #27510
