Item #27521 The Right Honorable Sir Joseph Banks K. B. President of the Royal Society. William Daniell, Geo. Dance.

The Right Honorable Sir Joseph Banks K. B. President of the Royal Society.

London: June 1, 1811. Print. A portrait of the now famous Joseph Banks. Banks, well connected and educated and an amateur botanist, was included in Cook's first voyage around the world, probably at the influence of the earl of Sandwich. The botanical specimens collected on Cook's first voyage by Banks, Daniel Solander, Sydney Parkinson & the crew of 90 aboard the Endeavour were the largest and most stunning collection of hitherto unknown specimens of fauna and flora collected on a single voyage of discovery.

Soft-ground etching; plate mark 10 3/4 x 7 7/8" on paper 19 x 12 3/4". Geo. Dance del. June 27, 1803; Wm. Daniell fecit. Rex Nan Kivell Collection ; NK 490; Beddie, 4093. Bib ID 2184278.

A strong impression. Some marginal dusting and very little light scattered foxing in margins. Very good overall. Item #27521
