Item #27540 South of South Street 1971-1975 Philadelphia. Will Brown.

South of South Street 1971-1975 Philadelphia.

Pennsylvania: Brilliant, 2021. Hardcover. Signed by the author. In 1967, the Browns renovated an abandoned Federal house in a rundown historic neighborhood in Philadelphia. Their aim was to live in an integrated neighborhood and fix up an historic place that had original details. The area had had long-standing businesses, many of which had closed and Will found the neighborhood visually provocative. He befriended local children, starting a bicycle clinic on Saturday mornings. The warmth of his relationships with his neighbors are apparent in the photographs.
