Previous owner's armorial book plate on the front paste down - Arcadi Gluckman. Gluckman was a Colonel in the U.S. Army, awarded a Silver Star during World War I, and was an author of gun books.
This copy includes a typed, signed letter from A. E. Osborn, Fort Smith, Arkansas. The letter is dated August 31, 1958 and is addressed to Colonel Arcadi Gluckman. The letter concerns a list of books on the Japanese Sword and a discussion of gun collections. A second ALS letter (3pp), is folded and laid inside the front cover. The letter is dated January 13th, 1933 and addressed to "Dear Captain" (most likely Arcadi Gluckman). The letter is written on "Japanese Legation Guard, Peiping, China" letterhead, discussing his research into Japanese swordsmiths, and signed at the end by S Watanabe?(not legible), Capt. Japanese Legation Guard.

8vo, [1], 195pp. Illustrated with 61 plates following the text. Recased. Custom binding with Asian bookbinder block stamp on the title page. Green cloth covered boards with green leather corners. Raised bands and gilt title on the spine. Leather has faded to brown color on the spine. Light scuff mark to the front cover and some light rubs to the leather spine. Blueish marbled end papers. This copy is heavily underlined in red pencil with some names and short notes written in the margins, as if used for research. Very good condition. Item #27764
