Paris: Lattre, 1762. Engraved double hemisphere outline color map printed on the eve of Captain Cook's momentous first voyage of discovery.

The map still incorporates the French imagined east coast to New Holland. Note that North America has an original green color wash, and shows the Great North West Coast Inland Sea.

Showing Australia (Nouvelle Hollande) with Terre de Diemen, Carpentaria and C. du Sud indicated, and attached to New Guinea in the north; just a coastal outline for New Zealand, no landmass at south pole, although Terres Antarctiques ou Australes is indicated.

With an elaborate title cartouche, with each hemisphere with its own title, Hemisphere Occidental and Hemisphere Oriental. Published in Paris by Lattre. Image size: 17 3/4 x 12". Paper size: 21 1/2 x 14 3/4". Lower margin toned, center fold, otherwise very good. Otherwise very good condition. Item #27778
