Civil War Major General, possibly Fritz Sigel, carte de visite.
New York: Anson's, 589 Broadway, [1864]. Photograph. A photograph of an unidentified Major General, possibly Fritz Sigel, the German American military officer, revolutionary and immigrant to the United States who was a teacher, newspaperman, politician, and served as a Union major general in the American Civil War. His ability to recruit German-speaking immigrants to the Union armies received the approval of President Abraham Lincoln. He entered the war in the Western theater, and this photograph shows a man sitting with his Western hat at his right, wearing the epaulets of a Major General. Facing left, his legs crossed with his arm resting on a table. 4 x 2 3/8", very good condition. Very good overall. Item #28079
