Early children's illustrated reader, with color wood cut plates, containing a tale of contemporary life at sea, the tea trade with China & whaling entitled "The Old Mariner": "there is the fine tea, that you are so fond of, we have to sail to the distant land of China in the east, (that is at least twelve thousand miles off) to get it ... We make voyages to the cold freezing north, where the seas are ice, to catch the great whales that play about in the northern ocean; for oil is made of their fat." (p 175). Accompanied by 2 color plates of ships at sea, and one b&w with ship flying flag "Don't Give up the Ship!"
