Ca. 1593. Copper engraved map ,11x15 cm. A German (?) edition with the imprint at the top "das Neue Guinea und die Kuste Carpentaria". The map shows the discoveries of the Arnhem, covering most of the North coast of New Guinea & the Gulf of Carpentaria. The entrance to the Gulf is called "The Eleven Thousand Virgins" (!) The Coen River is marked. A very early representation of the North Coast. Item #497
