Lectures, Essays and Published Articles On Scientific and Literary Subjects and on Foreign Travel.

Rochester, NY: 1885. First edition. Hardcover. Fascinating work illustrated by the "Gelatine (sic) Process of Picture Making". The process itself is described at length. The author's wide-ranging interests include microscopy, polar glaciers, evolution, anthropology, & visits to New Zealand and Mexico. The 2nd chapter covers polar glaciers. The author theorizes about the impact of the melting of the Antarctic ice, estimating that Antarctica must have thickness of 2 1/2 miles of solid ice. He cites James Ross's discourse in 1841. A fascination with New Zealand results in 13 of the 20 plates to be scenes of New Zealand, Maoris, etc. 5 plates are microscopic examinations of specimens. 8vo, xx + 345pp. Very good. Item #5302
