Homesteads for the People & Manhood Suffrage in a series of few letters from Peter Papeneau to Mr John Bull, Digger, Bendigo.

Melbourne: S. Goode Printer, 1855. Paperback. Quite a diatribe against the rich and powerful of the day, with an emphasis on land rights and voting. In the preface, the editor starts "The vaunted 'hospitalities of Toorak' are it appears, not altogether fabulous. More than one of the 'people's friends' have, it is said bartered, like Esau, their independence for a mess of Pottage, and whether the editors and proprietors of certain newspapers have also been of the invited, or not, the fact is undeniable that they have suddenly eschewed the cause of vulgar people, and become elaborately genteel;... (hoping that) some champion might step forward, and boldly vindicate the rights of the people to LAND and REPRESENTATION." It is dedicated to John O'Shanassy, hoping "he will adopt the cause of oppressed labor against the tax inflicting and tax evading landed and monied interest..." 8vo, (vi) last blind + 7-40pp. Publishers printed blue pp wrps.
