London: Smith Elder, 1905. First edition. Hardcover. This is the first UK edition, of which only 1,000 copies were reportedly printed. An account of the pathfinder 1901 - 1904 expedition for later Antarctic exploration, a landmark in British exploration history.
With the bookplate of the Conservative Club (UK) in both volumes, along with the gold embossed Conservative Club stamp below the medallions on the front boards. With the extra slip tipped onto the front free end paper in Volume 1 stating "This book is supplied by Messrs. Smith, Elder & Co. to booksellers on terms which will not admit of their allowing a discount from the advertised price."

Original navy buckram, very bright and clean internally. Spine strengthened top and bottom edges, gilt medallion on front boards bright with minor rubbing on raised portions.
