A Hudson Valley delight, a stunning volume in a morocco gilt decorated gift binding containing 20 hand & printed colored lithographs by Edwin Whitefield of native American flowers pictured with landscapes behind. Whitefield was a very accomplished artist visited a series of North American cities, where he published books reproducing the paintings he made there. His collections were published by subscription and today are very hard to come by.

Many views of the Hudson River region and Pennsylvania region. Hudson River views include near the city of Hudson, Otsego Lake, Fort Montgomery, near Verplanck's Point, Poughkeepsie, the entrance of the Highlands near Garrison, Albany, Staten Island, Constitution Island opposite West Point, Fishkill Creek, Harlem. Pennsylvania & New Jersey views include Wyoming Valley, Buttermilk Creek, Tioga, Cattawissa, Nineveh, Juniata & Passaic Falls.

Small 4to, 256pp, letterpress and 20 with hand & printed colored lithographs. There is a faint pencil inscription on the inside cover reading, " Presented to Mrs Tassel by T. Holyooke 1845". Handsomely bound in a black gilt decorated morocco presentation binding with flower covered trellises & urns of flowers, birds & squirrels abounding. Slightly bumped at extremes, lightly shelf rubbed, otherwise a very nice copy. Very good + condition. Item #8040
