The figure was derived from the 1776 Nathaniel Dance portrait of Cook and was perhaps created for the Great Exhibition of 1851, as a symbol of the expanding British empire. This special figure required eight rather than the usual three months necessary to make 'Alpha' figures. 8vo, frontis, 80pp, 61 color plates. Publisher's buckram, gilt title, pictorial dj, very good.
