Thirty Years of Early History of Cold Spring and Vicinity , With Incidents , By One Who Has Been a Resident Since 1819.

Cold Spring: Published by the author, 1886. 12mo pamphlet, 48pp. Gray wraps with b&w decorative border and title in black on front cover. No title on spine. Spine has one small tear at top, and front cover has small area at the top left, where a label was removed. Very scarce, a rambling but fascinating personal recollection of nineteenth century life in this Hudson River village by M. Wilson, an apprentice to the tanning trade, dated February 22, 1886. Observations on traveling to New York by sloop, Old Arthur the ferryman ("he was what might be called very eccentric" p.4), the school run by Master Browne, the cannon foundry (West Point), descriptions of the families, farms and houses in the village in 1819-20, and more. Very good. Item #11748
