The 2nd London edition varies slightly from the first - the 2 full page plates at p. 278 are now placed at p. 274 & 278, and there is a small tipped in slip before the folding map. The account of Scott's ill-fated expedition. This volume draws from Scott's diary as well as other writings, photographs and data found with their bodies in the tent after their heroic but failed attempt to be the first to reach the South Pole.
