Two large thick volumes, the first volume with Book 1, pertaining to Captain Cook's voyages and including the folding map of Cook's Pacific voyages, and engravings, including of kangaroo ("A singular Animal called Kanguroo found on the Coast of New Holland", p236) and the Portrait of Bennilong (p259).

Book 1 is mostly extracts from James Cook's journal encompassing voyages in the Friendly Islands, the New Hebrides, New Caledonia, New Zealand and New Holland. Also much content pertaining to China, Africa (including Egypt) and the Near East.

4to, 2 volumes, xiv, 816pp (&) 728pp, numerous maps & fine b&w plates. Volume I folding plate with short diagonal tear where map attaches, ruffled at foredge; early signatures detached but present. Some light scattered foxing to margins of a few plates.
