Collection of original artwork for the National Geographic Society's Action Pop-Up Book, Whales; the artwork in the final vivid colors, accurately and finely drawn in a photo-realistic style; including a 41 x 15" blue whale which is the final, largest plate found in the book; with the finished artwork including the sections used as 'pop-ups', a total of 35 individual pieces of original art, all on artist's white board and most with clear protective overlays, with some wear to edges and soiling, images very good to fine condition; with a cover letter on NGS letterhead to Ned Seidler returning the original art from the book and which praises the work; Ned Seidler (1922-2007) was for many years a respected staff artist for National Geographic magazine, contributing to memorable and artistic graphic representations of scientific & natural phenomena, cultures & ethnicities, exploration & travel that are the magazine's forte - he had a second career as designer of over 30 artistic and commemorative US postal stamps - his images have been exhibited at such prominent venues as the National Gallery of Art & the Brandywine River Museum Pennsylvania, and elsewhere; Rosalie Seidler his partner in this project and wife (1922 - 2010) born in New York and educated at the Art Students League and Pratt Institute and author-illustrator of several children's books along with commercial and fine art accomplishments; (with) the artists' own copy of the finished book including the loose 'whale record' as issued; in very good condition as is all the artwork; an interesting and beautiful rendition of mammal art as well as a good insight into the makings of a pop-up book.
